1999 Ford F350 throttle problems.?

When I am driving down the road the truck will start cutting out and the check engine light will come on but the truck idles fine. I turn the truck off then wait a few minutes and the truck will accelerate fine, then the problem starts again. When the problem starts I loose all throttle control, it just goes to an idle. It has the 7.3l Turbo Diesel.
 
my guess is something with your throttle positioning sensor miss communicating with your computer system. not telling it how much fuel to push to the injectors.
