1999 ford expedition making a whining sound at take off?

my 1999 ford expedition makes a whining noise at take off only i thought it was the power steering but i don't think so because when i turn the steering wheel the noise doesn't occur only at take off but it stops just before the transmission goes into over drive could it be the transmission it has a 183,000 miles
