1999 Ford Escort...please please HELP?

I had a crack in my radiator, I had a man to seal the crack, which lasted a week. For three days I drove it continuing putting water in there. On my way to the radiator shop it made a ticking noise and shut off but never ran hot. I let it sit for a day to cool. The next day I tried to start it, it turn over but wont start, how do I tell if I need another head or ingine, water is not visible on the oil stick....PLEASE HELP
