1999 Chevy Malibu engine shuts off and no power steering while driving?

I have an issue with my 1999 Chevy Malibu. Never had this problem before. While driving my car's engine will shut off and I have no use of my power steering. All of my electronics in the car will still stay on ie: radio, lights etc. I was able to pull over put the car in park and restart the car with no problem. It then did it again 10 minutes later. I have noticed within the past 3-4 weeks that when I start my car in the morning it does stutter a bit as if its about to shut off. I was told that it might be my Alternator. Is that true? Please help
