Should I be able to feel my corolla's automatic transmission shift. My friend has a 99 accord and I never feel the transmission shift, but there's definitely something wrong with it because it sometimes shifts at 4000RPM. The accord also Jerks pretty bad when you slow down in second gear and step back on the gas, but thats the only time I feel the transmission doing something. I can feel my car shift but it never shifts past 3K rpm (That's when I'm accelerating rapidly). Under normal driving it shifts somewhere between 2-2500 RPM. I checked the tranny fluid and it looks fine (darker redish color) and smells like fluid, not burnt smelling or anything. I've had it for about 7 months and its always shifted this way. Is it because it's a small car? Someone told me that older toyota's tranny's just drop into the next gear, unlike other car's that use bands to avoid shift shock. IDK if that's true or not?
