Hello,
I have an automatic 1998 Toyota Corolla that I'm having a problem with. The shifter (it's an automatic) usually requires the button to be pressed on the left side with your thumb to switch from P to N, D, D2, etc. and anywhere in between. The shifter's always been a little loose when it's been sitting on one of the gears, but today something new started.
The car will now shift from Drive to Neutral and vice versa without that button needing to be pressed. It also seems tricky to get the car locked into Drive.
My questions are:
1. What could be the issues here? If so, how much is it to fix?
2. Would it likely be safe to drive my car from here to the mechanic on Monday (approx 25 miles)?
Thank you so much for any input you can give me!
