1998 Buick Regal: How do I manually lift my driver's window?

I've managed to get my door panel off and to get a look at the window itself. What I don't understand is: originally, the window FELL into the door very quickly and smoothly. But now when I try to move the window upwards, it gets halfway and then it's IMPOSSIBLE to move, like it's almost welded to the vertical bar. Is there a clip or some screw I need to remove so I can lift the window?

My regulator is done for (one of the cables was loose and hanging out) and I'll get that repaired later but I need this window up temporarily. Any tips?
