I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix with an aftermarket Kenwood stereo, and i would like to know if there a way to change the stereo setting so it the stereo shuts off as soon as the car is shut off. Currently it stays on until the door is opened (after the car is shut off.)

It's not a matter of a setting in the stereo; the "problem" is that the accessory power wire in the radio harness retains power until the door is opened. This is how GM designed the radio circuit; it's a feature, not a bug.

If you don't want your radio to work this way, then you'll need to connect the radio's red accessory power wire to a voltage source that turns off with the key. I'd probably tap it into the thick brown wire in the key switch harness.
