I have a 1997 grand am gt 2.4l twin cam, i start my car up for at least 5 minutes every morning and after work and when i drive the first 3 to 5 miles the car shifts from 1st to 2nd like it has a shift kit in it, it actually barks the tires when shifts 1st to 2nd when i am punching it. and that's the only gear it does it 1st, and after the first 5 miles it doesn't do it till it sits and cools down for a long while. its done it for over a year now but never any tranny problems, i've installed a INJEN cold air intake and HELIX throttle body plate and its made a great power and torque improvement. but did the hard shift before the installs. car has 154,000 miles and still runs and drives like brand new and never a problem with the car or tranny. any answers ?

if its a manual trans, the cluch could be wore out. but for a auto trans, It may need a trany flush. Do it right and change the trany filter. If it has 154 thousand miles, It deffinetly needs to be flushed. thats were I would start. The next step is check the breather tube. If the tube is cloged it will be keeping air from the trans.

If you run the car for 5 min, befor driving it, its not because the car is cold. its because the trainy is cold.

maybe there is a chance it has a shift kit. Never know
