1997 Honda prelude having problems cutting out.?

I recently just bought a 97 Honda Prelude. And it has been running relatively fine except a few things that i have noticed. Its an automatic, s-type with the motor being replaced here not to long about with about 26k on the motor. When i put it in first and maybe push the gas in quite a ways sometimes it likes to cut out but not in any other gears. I not really used to these newer cars because before this i owned a 66 chevy nova. And those are quite easy to work on or troubleshoot. But without going back to the guy i bought it from i was wondering if anyone knew why it would be cutting out or running kind of sluggish. The motor is stamped right below the exhaust manifold and its a HM or H22A4 so im not sure on the info or what is needed. If anyone can help! Thanks
