1997 Honda muffler noisy....How to fix it?

Ok so i just got a 97 honda accord and the muffler is like one of those racing ones...it is super loud and obnoxious!! Anyways everywhere i take it they say it is like 300-400 to fix it because it is the whole muffler system i guess. Is there any other way to fix it to make it quieter??? Thanks so much.
