1997 ford contour wont start or engine turns off while driving?

I have to start the car and hit the gas (in parked) to crank the engine. The engine light turns on. I had an uncle check it but not sure what could be the reasons.
This has been happening for the last few days and I got a recent oil change with air filter other than that its been fine
