1997 Chrysler Sebring Convertible?

I am looking into buying a 1997 Sebring Convertible. It will be my first car. It has a 170,000 miles on it and is 1,600- I am trying to lower the price. I took it to mechanic and he said all i have to do is about 500$ worth of fixing. Plus some new tires. I was wondering if this car is a reliable car? And if it is worth getting. I drove it seems good- Just the brakes aren't to good but will fix that to.

Would you recomend this car? I like the price- because my price range is 2200. Tell me what you think?
 
They are not very reliable from the view point of a parts guy. However, if it just needs brake and tires and a mechanic already checked it out it's not a big risk.
