1997 Chevy Pickup truck shifting hard?

I have a 1997 Chevy pickup truck that is 2 wheel drive and has a 305 Vortec engine with a 105,000 miles on it. The truck is beginning to shift hard after I have been driving on the highway for about a half hour. It shifts hard in every gear while leaving a stop light, it will quit if I turn the truck off for a couple minutes and then restart it. The truck does not do it all the time, it is a hit and miss issue. Has anybody had this issue or know of a fix. Thank you
