I have a Toyota Corolla with 172,000 miles on it (I know, it's a lot). Over the past week, there has been a clicking sound coming from under the hood. I tried not to drive it as much, but today on my way to work the clicking turned into a loud grinding sound, and every time I would stop the car would stall out. The lights and electrical stuff work fine, and stay on after the car stalls out. I should also mention that my battery is less than a year old, but I often have to tighten the cables to start my car. I am very worried, because I am not exactly flush with cash right now. I'd like to take it to an auto repair shop to have the alternator tested, but I'm afraid it won't make it. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help in advance!
