1996 jeep grand cherokee hesitates to go in to drive either cold or hot?

My car had this problem, but it would hesitate, then jerk slightly when I shifted to reverse, ended up being a bad transmission mount. try having those checked, if not, try a bottle of lucas transmission stop slip, even if your trans is not slipping, it will help. that's just what it's called, and you don't have to drain any fluid to use it.

my 1996 jeep grand cherokee has recently been acting weird.late in the morning when i back out of my drive way and then put it into drive.it takes it a few secongs to start pulling forward.it can either be cold or hot or i could be sitting at a red light throw it in neutral and it still does it.but mainly when it has cooled down.ive check the fluid level and has just recently had a fluid changed and new filter.i see normal wear on the pan and the tranny fluid smells like it should when i change it.i had a rebuilt tranny put in it about 4 or 5 years ago.when the tranny was out in.the jeep had 138000 miles on it and now it has got 178000 miles on it.so idk what the problem is.like i said it just recently started doing it and i hardly know nething about tranny only motors.so could ne one give me a explanation on what it could be and y it is doing it.and also everytime i change the fluid i add lucas oil transmission stop slip.but i add it for the benefit of the tranny.not becuz it is slipping or nrthing like that.thank to all who help me out.

I think the Cherokee tranny has a "special" transmission fluid.
I would check that out a.s.a.p if I were you.

update:
PS: Mopar ATF+4 is the only fluid you should use.

Best regards.

I am not a transmission man myself, but it sounds like the transmission is not engaging as it should, could be valves inside that aren't working right. A good transmission place could tell you what the problem could be. I think some valves work on pressure, and so it has to build up before the valve operates.
Although you only have 40000 on the rebuilt tranny, it could be giving you some problems.

Also, the condition of the engine, tune up wise, plays a big part on how a transmission works. There are vacuum lines that run to the tranny, on some vehicles, I don't know about the Jeep, but these lines work on vacuum, and if the engine is not running right, the vacuum could be messed up and so the transmission will suffer. Just another thought.
