my sister has had this dodge neon for several years now. it is her primary method of transportation to and from a local college. a month or two ago, i drove this car a bit around town when mine was in the shop, and i had no problems with it. solid little thing. however, she complained to me recently about some problems in her steering, so i thought i would take it for a little test drive tonight and see for myself. wow, what a difference. this car is horrible. all of the windows seem to rattle horribly, like the whole car vibrates. also, when in park, i can barely tap the gas pedal, and the rpm's skyrocket over 2k! it gets worse in drive. i put it into gear, and it starts accelerating on its own. itll go up to about 25-30 mph without me even touching it. makes braking difficult to say the least. it idles fairly high as well. this car has less than 80000 miles on it, and has seen plenty of fluid changes (courtesy of a great older brother) in its lifetime. any ideas as to what could have caused this horrible transformation, and some things i could try before i take it into the shop? would really rather save some money, because as i said, shes a college student. college students = no $. thanks for any help!
