A friend of mine owns a 96 dodge dakota with about 200,000 miles on it. Recently his tail lights went out and dashboard lights. Those lights will not turn on at all. So what I did was replaced the fuse for those lights and then I turned on the tail lights which they came on for 2 seconds then went out again. I checked every single fuse and replaced some of them and I still can not get the tail lights and dash board lights on.

What could be the problem?

P.S On my 1993 dodge dakota I had the same exact problem last week and replacing the fuse for my truck worked like a charm. :)

well its not the fuse then.. could be a short or a bad ground. look and see if he has trailer wiring on it. maybe a wire broke.

you may have a bad light switch on that one,i own a 99 and have already had to replace it once on it,when they go bad sometimes the lights will work and other times they wont,id check for power coming out of the light switch if your positive the fuses are good, dodges was famous for burning out light switches, especially the dakota,s,i own two of those, good luck.
