1996 Chrysler Town & Country A/C expansion valve w/ dual A/C?

I am working on a friends 1996 Chrysler Town & Country minivan (3.8L engine). The a/c blows cold in the rear and not cold in the front. My question involves the expansion valve. I'm thinking that the expansion valve for the front a/c unit could be bad, but are the two units in series or parallel? I would think that if they were in series, neither would work.

If anyone else has any other suggestions on this issue, I'm all ears. (the freon level looks good and the pressures seem to be fine.)
