I want to buy a car. Somebody is selling a 1996 buick century (with a V-6 engine). I want a car with pretty good gas milage (I travel long distances often plus good gas milage is just better). So what kind of gas milage does a car like this probably get?

Also, the car has 75,000 miles on it, they say it runs great and started fine after sitting for 6 weeks. It's a guy I know's mom who is selling the car and I don't think he would lie about the condition. What is a fair price for the car?

Fuel mileage for a midsized Buick won't be spectacular but for a larger car it will probably surprise you how fuel efficient it will be. Expect low to mid 20s, maybe higher for highway driving.

Buick's are great cars. Well built, well equipped with options, maybe a bit "soft" on the suspension but a good riding car. Certainly no performance car and it won't win any style awards . If it has the 3.8 V6, that is GMs best engine.

Buicks tend to be a bargain on the used car market since they are unfairly generalized as "old folks" cars. You should be able to pick up a used low mileage Century for around $2000. But this is your friend's mother, don't try to beat her up over price, either buy the car or pass on it.

The gas mileage would be about 20/29 mpg (city/hwy). Which is alright for a V6 engine, but not the greatest on mileage. I good price for the car would be around $1500
