1995 Mazda 626 DX timing belt after putting a new water pump new timing

belt car idled higher than before help? car idled higher than before also had the tensioner spring replaced as well rpm is a little higher too what all could or can this be i seen the i and e had to be lined up to be in time i heard somethin about a sprocket and cams and timing maybe even something i don't know please help anyone as this is first time on a mazda it is automatic 2.0 engine 4 cylinder 1995 dx 626 version has dohc no special parts just stock factory
well my step dad did run it like 4 to 6 times over 3minutes for sure but it still idled the same not sure im no mechanic myself he has the book on mazda's but it just shows hot to repair and install stuff but not fine into detail but how long should it be ran for or how about bleeding it out.
ok he has done it again taken apart checked it all out and put it back together no high rpm no high idling just a little rough sounding and engine dies when he backed up came to a stop to go forward it died he cranked it up moved it to where he was gonna park it and it ran but just dies at the times of going from reverse to forward and some when parked but does run no grinding he said it was the crank timing what can be done to make the crank timing correct any idea's or suggestions please need all the help we can get. thanks
