1995 Jeep Wrangler stuck in 4wd?

I own a 1995 Jeep Wrangler and I believe it is stuck in 4WD. I can easily shift into 2WD but the 4WD light on the dashboard continues to shine. When I turn the key the light does not show, but when I start the car it does. I have no idea how to fix this problem and need some advice.

I also heard that it will come out of 4WD on its own, is that true?
