I am looking to buy a used 1995 Grand Cherokee Laredo, however the owner does not want to sell it to me unless I get it running. Heres the problem. The security system. Someone tampered with it and now the security system won't let it run. It has been sitting at the shop for 6 months and not touched since it was parked out back. The shop did try to fix it but accomplished nothing. When I plug the battery in it flashes the lights and the security light inside flashes but no horn sounds even though the horn works. that part isnt a big deal to me. I won't have the key until tomorrow, so i didnt have a way to shut the security off other than unplugging the battery. How can I fix the security system? What needs to be done to it?
I read that if you put the key in the driver side door and turn it twice to the right, holding the key turned for about 3 seconds the second time you turn it, the security system will reset. I also read that I should try putting it in neutral and then try to start it. I need to shut the security alarm off first and every time i hook the battery back up to the battery terminals, the security alarm goes off. Like i said, i won't have a key until tomorrow so hopefully i can at least figure out how to shut the security alarm off.
