1994 Honda XR100 Dirt bike rod and piston?

I have the above dirt bike and the rod and piston is messed up. And I have never had to have any work done so I am very new at it and don't want to get taken when I go to have it fixed.

I have been told by a few that they can just replace the rod, piston and rings. But a few have told me I will have to buy an entirely new motor.

Which if either is correct?
