Temperature guage on the dash does not indicate overheating but the system builds too much pressue and blows the cap right off of the over flow tank. Radiater has been flushed and coolant replaced. Was going to replace the thermostat but there wasnt one! The cooling fans arent coming on either that I noticed. Please help. Could it be the radiator cap?
This is my sons car that he has owned for over a year. Problem just started last week. Not sure why the thermostat was removed but it shouldnt have taken over a year to find out that the head gasket was bad. However the problem as he descibes is a boiling or overheating of the radiater and over flow tank. I helped him drain, flush and refill with coolant. Could be over filled but prior to doing this the coolant was low and he still had the problem. The last time this happened he heard a bang and stopped the car to find the lid on the over flow tank blown off. After this happend the temperatrure gauge went into the red but it had not indicated it was over heating prior to stopping the car. (according to my son anyway). Weird problem. I guess I will drive it myself and try to get a better description of the problem/sysmtoms and let you know. Thanks for the help!
