I recently drove from Los Angeles to San Francisco and back and encountered overheating problems. During the entire trip the temperature gauge will go from normal to 3 quartes and back. On certain occasions the gauge will be SUPER close to the red of the gauge. When that will happen I will let go of the gas and slow down, soon after the gauge will slowly begin to go back down to 3 quarters or a lil lower. It continues to do that now when I drive in the city...I slow down for it to lower. I know it is not normal. I have replaced the thermostat and flushed the radiator... It still does it! What could it be? Please help!

By the way the car is a V8 and the head gasket is not blown because the coolant is not being burned through the exhaust...the exhaust is normal.

sounds like u need to put a different temp thermostat in(probably lower temp like a 180 instead of 195) and also check ur fan(s) and make sure they r working correctly......and also check ur radiator and make sure the fins r claen adn also make sure ur fan shroud isnt missing/broken

also almost forgot it cud b a trapped air bubble in ur system....
