Ok so I bought my dads 1994 Dodge Ram off of him, it has 183,000 miles and in pretty good shape engine wise.

The exhaust had been cut from someone trying to steal the cat converter about 6 inches from the the cat converter on the engine side.

Now to the problem...
I woke up and went to the bank and store, about 5-10 minutes of driving, when I pulled out the store it just shut down, no sputtering or anything. I tried to start it while it was still moving, and nothing.

I tried to jump it and still nothing.
Check the battery, it was good.
same thing with the alternator and starter.

My question is, can the fact that there is so little backdraft for the engine cause it to lock up?

If not, what the hell is wrong with it?

Sounds more like an ECM issue. A gas burner needs some backpressure but it should not lock up the motor due to lack of a cat. I have had had several vehicles that have had the cat hollowed out and not run into any problems other than better fuel mileage.
