1994 chevy has a weird noise?

own a 1994 silverado 4x4 and recently i've been hearing a grinding noise coming from under the truck when i give a fair amount of gas. The noise does NOT occur when in 4HI, 4LO, or reverse which leads me to believe that it is comming from the transfer case. the fluid in the T. case is full and the u-Joints have already been replaced.... any ideas??
