one day my dad was driving my lincoln and he run it out of gas then he put gas back in it and now it wont start, any ideas? it acts like it wants to but it wont. the cheak engine also come on so i got a code reader, and the code said high voltage, so i dont really know what that means

Sounds like you need to check the alternators output voltage with a voltage meter if it's about 13.8 it's fine but if current is up in the 14 volt range or higher the alternator is faulty. That's only one item that can give out too much voltage is the alternators regulating circuit, another is the A/C compressor system, even a battery could be acting up giving out improper voltages but more then likely it be the alternator's regulating circuit causing that problem too.
Try changing the gas filter bec running low on gas causes a lot of crap to run through the gas system and can clog gas filters.I'd change the gas filter , add STP gas treatment and more gas if tank not full now.More then likely the cause of it not starting now is due to the filter being clogged so I'd change it add treatment a couple of tanks and later change filter again.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way keep in mind that if you've run that vehicle on a low tank level a lot or not changed the gas filter on a yrly regular basis it's highly likely the filter is at fault here.
