I have a 1993 honda civic and about a week ago, my speedometer started acting up and would just go to zero or bounce around while I was driving. Then a few days ago my RPM would go up really high when I first started driving. This would continue until the car would eventually make a grind noise and then the RPM would return to normal. During all of this, my check engine light would sometimes come on. Today after driving my car about 10 miles, my reverse completely went out.
Any ideas of what it could be?
Ive been told by phone I need to just replace the whole transmission which will cost $800.
Could it possibly be a sensor or filter instead?
would the speed sensor cause my car to not function in reverse?
When in reverse, when press the gas the engine tries to accelerate but doesn't move the car.
