1993 buick century won't start. started fine 3 weeks ago.now it turns over but...

...won' t start.? it is getting plenty of spark and it is getting fuel.it is a v6 3300 motor fuel injection. blew some propane in to carb and also some starter fluid and it kept on kind of firing and wanting to start but it just wouldn't. it backfired from the exhaust and the carb also. it almost felt like maybe the timing was out. don't really know. is there also a sensor on the motor somewhere to control something to do with this? sure could use someone's help. thank you
 
Couple of reasons.

- Check the ballast resistor. It's a little white block attached to the metal between the engine and the driver, with a single bolt; wires plug into each side. It's pretty easy and inexpensive to replace.

- Because your car is fuel injected, check the computer codes. Often, the computer will know what is wrong, but it is not infallible.


1. So your engine turns over? Have you tried checking for a broken timing belt?

There are sensors. If you disconnect the MAP sensor, it can cause a car to not start without setting any fault codes. So if you disconnect it completely and your car starts, it was the MAP sensor.

Another common problem is the Hall effect sensor, which tells the computer where the engine is. This is moderately easy and inexpensive to replace (as is the MAP sensor.) Even cars with no distributor use Hall Effect sensors, on the block.
