bought a new battery and battery cables and it still does not start. it has a clicking sound and that is it. it will take a jump though and then runs fine but it I turn it off it needs a jump again
If you changed the battery then it is probably the alternator. Bring the car to Sears, Pep Boys, Autozone, preferably Sears. There they will hook the car up to a machine that detects what is wrong with charging system.
first check the battery terminals i know you said you bought new cables, but make sure you have a good connection. then check and see if the connection from the alternator to the battery is good. if that is not the problem get a multimeter (you can get one from auto zone or somewhere that sells car parts.) and check the alternator voltage output. it should be putting out about 14 volts. if it is not then your alternator might be bad.
