1992 Toyota Corolla tachometer installation...?

Can anyone guide me through installing an after market tachometer....I understand that the red wire is power, the black wire is ground, and the white wire is the backlight. I dont know about the green wire which should go somewhere to the distributer coil (not to familiar with this part)....
 
if you look at your distributor there should be a single wire coming off its wire harness that has a plug on the end. that is a tach signal wire. test it while the car is running with a test light to make sure that you can see pulse. if you do, you can plug the green wire in there and your tach will function. good luck
