The S light is flashing because the automatic transmission control unit has detected a problem that is prohibiting the torque converter clutch from engaging. The torque converter clutch is a mechanical coupling that is applied to eliminate hydraulic slippage over 40 mph. in your car, theat converter is not engaging.
almost every time this condition is due to a vehicle speed sensor that isn't sending an input to the automatic transmission control module. Unletss there is a signal that tells the control unit how fast the car is going it doesn't know when to apply the clutch; so it doesn't. its confused so it starts flashing the S light.
the vehicle speed sensor will, in almost every case be the casue and will have to be repalced to get the light to stop blinking. its an easy replaceemnt; the sensor is located on the top of the transmission and is only held in by two bolts. very easy to change out. there are other possibilities, such as open circuits and blocked internal transmission passages but if you don't notice any abnormal shifting then its unlikely that it is anything more than the speed sensor
hope that helps
