1992 honda accord radio code i have the code.. dont know how to enter it?

my pawpaw gave me the car and my battery died. when i got the car back running it said code so my pawpaw told me he had written it in a silver sharpie under the hood, i got the code and just pressed the numbers on the radio but it didnt do anything is there ssomething i should press before? or after? some people say theres beeped but didnt do nothing mine didnt beep or nothin
