1992 ford f150 2wd pitman arm?

removed drag link joint from pitman arm pitman arm does have a little horizontal play but know vertical at aa1car.com said vertical play would be a problem didnt say anything about horizontal play but did say vertical and horizontal play in tierods are bad is this true about the pitman arm
 
A pitman arm should have NO up and down play. It holds that end or the steering link up and play in the pitman arm will cause a drifting or wondering sensation when driving
