Am new to this forum and apologise in advance if I am asking an old query. I am looking at purchasing a 1992 900 superlite and wondering how collectable it is or will become. White frame, Marvic rims, about 16000 km. Whats your guide on what I should pay for this bike. Any response would be greatly appreciated.

If it's the one in South Oz for $13990 it's maybe a bit exxy? It's probably the model to get as it has the two piece marvic wheels which didn't make it onto later year SL's and I think there were some other things which made it more different to the SS which weren't on later year SL's. I don't know how many there are in Australia and they were pretty few and far between even back when they were current models. Appears to be in good condition by the pictures.

Thanks for the feedback rodericb. Yeh it is the one you mentioned. Has all the required bits, Marvic rims. floating cast rotors, flatslide carbs. It is # 645. As you mentioned it is a bit exxy and hasn't been stored very well. Fairing has also been repaired without a great deal of expertise. Might keep me eyes and options open.

No worries. If I remember correctly, the SL's had the same engine as the SS so those flatslides are nice additions. I don't think the fairings were anything fancy like carbon/kevlar and were solid red with decals so they should be reasonably straightforward to restore (weld, fill, respray, decals, clearcoat). As a total restoration it sounds like it'd be easy and I'd work back from something like $13k for one which is immaculate so you might deduct your costs of restoring the fairings, painting the frame, refinishing the wheels and maybe even factoring the cost of the original exhaust (was a high-mount system). This version of the SL is the pick of all the SL's. A top condition SS of the same age might be worth $8 or $9k?

It looked good in the pictures but they're fairly low-res - they do suffer if not stored well. Frame paint loses its gloss and goes manky, the crankcases go white, the bolts rust and so on and it's a real job to get all that stuff back to good condition.
