1991 Volkswagon Jetta manual Wolfsburg ran fine and now will not start? Help?

My husband bought a 1991 Volkswagon Jetta (Wolfsburg edition) earlier today. It's a stick shift. The guy said it was in storage for a year. So my husband drove it from Indiana to Michigan without a problem. About an hour after he got home, I pulled up behind the Volkswagon and saw that the drivers' side door was ajar. He came out and tried to start it, but it I believe he said it will not turn over. When he pushes the clutch to the floor, I can see it moving. We thought it may be the battery, so we gave it a jump, but it did nothing. So we bought a new battery; nothing. What could have happend? He said it ran great all the way home. When he goes to start the car, the battery light is on and is solid red, not blinking. Can someone give me some ideas for him to try, so we can get this thing running? Thanks :)
Oh..okay, well, nevermind...I guess the seatbelt had to be buckled in order for it to start, lol
