Dear James C,

I myself have the same problem with my Honda 1990 GX Civic. For me, the main problem is leaking radiator fluid from the water pump.

Heres what you need to check though.
1) Check if you have radiator fluid within your radiator withholding area.
2) Check if you have motor oil within the engine block. [I preffer 20-30 / 20-50 because it takes alot longer to leak or use up if you have one of these thicker fluids]
3) Check if either radiator or engine block are leaking anti-freeze/oil.
4) Open the metalic radiator cap [usualy at the front of the car] and put cold water in it before you drive [Note: ONLY DO THIS STEP IF THE CAR HAS BEEN OFF FOR 8-9 HOURS, POSSIBLE INJURY OR DEATH IF OPENED WHILE HOT!]
5) Have an AAA [tripple A] certified mechanic garrage run a diagnostics check. [Should range from 20-30 dollars, if they charge you anymore tell them you will call AAA and notify them of price gauging; which is quite often.]

This car has had a two stage thermostat put in it and a new radiator cap. When you run the car and it gets hot up open the cap and relieve presser on the system it runs over into the reservoirs. after you do that It does fine. Someone told me that I need to purge the system. I have no clue. It does this every time the car has sit for a couple hours.
