I turn the Key to "ON" and it acts normal. The fuel pump primes and the dash lights come on like they should. I turn the key and get a single click like a relay swicthing and all the power is gone as if I had no battery. I disconnect the battery ground wire and put it back on and it resets. The cables are about 2 years old as is the battery and are not rusted at all. I had been having problems where the fuel pump would stay on after I shut it off running down the battery. I replaced the Fuel pump relay hoping that I could start the truck thinking that the relay was bad causing it to not work. I know when a starter is bad often you will hear a clicking but it tends to be more than one click and it's a different sound also doesn't tend to shut off all power. I'm sure it's a relay or fuse but not sure which one. Have any ideas?
I charged the battery before replacing the fuel pump relay. If it were just a dead battery why would taking the ground loose and putting it back on cause it to be magicly charged again? I also cleaned the wires while I had the battery out charging since I knew that would make a difference. I'll take the battery up to the store to have it tested but I would be very surprised if thats what it is. The lights all work well until I turn the key then there is literaly no battery power, no lights nothing until I take the negitave termainal off and put it back on the the lights work again.
