1991 Dodge Dakota V8 Tranny?

I need to replace the tranny in my '91 V8 Dakota. Can anyone tell me the steps to follow before I get under it and mess shit up please? Its a 1991 Dakota LE 4x4, standard cab, longbox with a 318ci V8. Thanks.
