1991 acura legend wont start, alternator?

So I baught an acura legend with 200,000 miles on it, works fine but the problem is That i baught a new battery for it worked fine for a week then Stopped starting on its own, i have to get it jumped every time i want to start it, takes usualy 15 min for the other car to charge the acura. once it starts it runs but when i idle for a little bit it revs itself alot? Could this be the cause of a bad alternator or do i need somthing called a new "main relay?" please help me, i dont know anything about car electrical

Electrical is tricky. To see if it is the alternator, when the car is running disconnect the negative battery cable. If the car keeps running your alternator is okay and you probably have a short somewhere. If it dies then it's your alternator.

First take your battery to your local Autozone and have them test your battery. If it's not that have your alternator checked out.

sounds like an alternator...or the cable between the alternator and battery is fried
