1990 Dodge Dakota 4x4 Question?

I have a 1990 Dodge Dakota 3.9L V6 4x4 5-Speed, here in PA we been getting a lot of snow and i keep my Dakota in 4wd for around the yard, i put it in 2wd for the road and when i put it back in 4wd it tends to keep slipping out back into 2wd. Any Ideas on what be happening?
