This was my first vehicle and I'm looking to resurrect it (at least make it road legal). I stopped driving it because it stopped starting when I turned the key. I replace the solenoid but that wasn't the problem. It starts if I jump the solenoid, but just turning the key no longer works. Any ideas??

Get a test lite. Is current reaching the solenoid? If so, you just installed a defective solenoid. Be more happy than pissed. You already know how easy that replacement is.
No current? Find current. Run a jumper cable to solenoid post and see car start.
Now lets start at key best guess says replace ignition switch. But lets test.
Follow that wire back to key, testing as you go. Check for feed to switch.
Then replace it because its broken.

And if it is automatic, check your neutral shutout switch.
