1989 Chevy S10, My new clutch was put in not too long ago. Now I can't even get

it to shift when I pump it.? It only shifts in park. We did bleed the lines but is it possible there is still air in the line or is it the slave cylinder? Will I have to buy another new clutch?
 
If I remember right, the clutch slave cylinder is part of the throw out bearing, and should have been replaced with the clutch. All this only applies if there is a hydraulic clutch. Check the reservoir for fluid and try bleeding it properly. use a clear plastic bottle(soda bottleswork great!). have a small amount of brake fluid in it. Open the bleeder screw, install a 5/32" hose on the bleeder and submerge the other end in the fluid in the bottle. Slowly pump the clutch pedal, having a helper watch the fluid level in the bottle. When there are no bubbles coming from the hose, and the fluid level rises, close the bleeder screw and try the pedal. It could also be that the clutch master cylinder has gone bad. If that's the case, the fluid level will very slowly rise while pumping, or not raise at all.
 
probably abad clutch slave cylinder or master clylinder could have air in the system too
 
Sounds like you have a problem with the hydraulic side of the system.....you could have air in the system, or you could have a leak...check the reservoir and see if its full. You probably wont need a new clutch, but anything is possible. Good luck!
 
You should never have to pump it to begin with. It sounds to me that the clutch master cylinder is wore out. If the slave is bad it will leak without a doubt. The master will allow fluid to bypass and "sometimes" leak into the passenger compartment. Look for leakage where the rod goes through the firewall. You can normally smell it in the car. Also it will remove paint so you will see evidence if it has been leaking. And no, your clutch should be fine.
 
You may need a new slave cylinder or it may still have air in the line like you said, before you do anything check the level of your brake fluid, could just be leaking out and causing air to get back into the brake system. On these brake systems you don't want to pump the brake pedal fast when your trying to bleed the air out of the line, also when you go to release the brake pedal release it slow not to get air back into the lines.Like i said you shouldn't need another clutch
 
I assume you had it replaced at a reputable shop that gave you a warranty. I would take it back as I am sure they'd be happy to check it out.
