1988 Honda Civic wagon 1.6L?

I just purchased this car and it runs for a while and then stops as though it doesn't get gas anymore ( or overheats) After cooling off for a while it starts and runs again. I really need to solve this problem. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks ahead of time! Also, it has 175,000 miles on it.
If you want to tell me to sell it with this problem then what am I to ask for it? Geez! Doing the reading, Hondas are supposed to run up to 300,000 miles.
 
What you have is more of a hobby than transportaion...... In a couple of years that Hondas going to be a classic..... It could be a number of problems thats causing your malfunction..... Consider replacing that car -- advertise it in Hemmings Motor News -- Thats where the collectors are and where you will likely get the most money....
