1988 Ford Ranger Fuel Problem?

Its getting gas up to the front of the truck but wont get into the engine the truck will start for a few seconds with starting fluid
 
there's a fuel filter on the frame rail on the driver's side change it and see what happens if the same check your fuel rail
 
There should be a fuel filter in the engine compartment. Check it out. Sounds clogged to me.
 
Sludge may have built up in the engine so bad it is keeping the engine from running. Try a fuel additive. They work great for loosening sludge. basically what is on the valves in the shell commercials. I use BG brand in my 2008 ford superduty. Make sure you don't use too much or it will loosen all the sludge at once and you'll have bigger problems. Hope this helps.
