My 1988 f-250, 7.5l 446 keeps backfiring constantly while revving the engine but It hasnt been run in two years. Recently the catalytic converter was stolen and i think that might be the problem because there are two pipes that come off the engine and lead to the cat and are now just sitting there cut and unattached. Perhaps the truck isnt getting the right air/fuel ratio???? Causing it to "choke" and backfire???? Or is it because it hasnt been run in so long and jst needs to have a good cleaning and running? I was thinking about just straight piping it but i want to get rid of this constant backfire. Any ideas on how to fix this probelm?
