I just recently bought a 1988 Dodge Dakota from my boss but recently I've noticed what seems a slight transmission fluid leak. My boss told me it leaked because they put so much but while I was at work for four hours it looked like more of a leak rather than just over flow maybe. I know its cheap to get more fluid but I just want to know if it may leak. Its under the truck near the middle like under the seats position and i see a black box where the leak seems to be. It was hard to tell at night, its not like a lot was leaking or I would of noticed a trail when going home. My boss checked the dip stick when cold and it had enough and he said I still had a good amount but wants to check it when its hot i just don't know if it may be a serious leak or a minor one that wont cost a fortune.

Also: My sister's boyfriend said that there was something to buy that you put in the transmission or with the fluid and it stops the leaking and makes the transmission run better.
Well when I first checked i cleaned it and put it back in but I got to re check it just to get the engine hot this time, it wasn't a really huge leak it seemed over four hours it didn't seem like such a huge leak it just look liked it could of spread.

There are some products on the market that you can but with stop leak in it. You might want to see if you can clean the transmission off and see if you can find where it is leaking from. It could be something as simple as a o ring on the dipdtick tube. If it one of the front or rear seal, it will only get worse. You don't want to let a quick fix project end up costing you a transmission.

Whatever you do, DON'T use any canned fix like "stop leak". They only do more damage to the vehicle. You check the level of fluid while hot and running. Hopefully it wasn't over-serviced. That can cause seals to go bad. You need to trace out the source or go to a shop and have them find out where it's coming from if you aren't mechanically inclined.
