My vehicle is in bad shape. I removed the instrument panel to see how many bulbs needed to be replaced and to see what the speedometer cable connector looked like to see if I could replace it. Afterward, whenever I turned on the headlights, the engine would stall.
I've narrowed the problem down to the Clearance/Illumination fuse. When that fuse is out, the vehicle runs fine. With the fuse in, the headlights stall it out. Since the instrument panel lights come on with the headlights, I'm guessing that's the real issue.
Other symptoms:
Very poor illumination at the instrument panel. Only one light for the gauges seems to work.
The "you still have your keys in the ignition and your door is open" chime suddenly started working again.
I'm going to remove the instrument panel and double-check all of the connectors, but I still don't see how that would cause the engine to stall.
